Casa Bahar has been renovated with natural and salvaged materials. It offers panoramic views of the surrounding olive orchards and forests as well as the snow-capped maritime alps in the distance.
Rustic modern design
Approximately 150 square meters, Casa Bahar features unusually large and open spaces for the region. A sun-filled open concept living room/kitchen occupies nearly the entire upper floor of the house. This facilitates group gatherings or space to be together yet focus on one’s own interests. The entire length of the living room and kitchen is windowed with a wrap-around terrace boasting breathtaking views of the mountains and valley below.
Upon entry to the house, step back in time into two beautifully restored stone rooms. One serves as a “mud room” for coats and shoes, etc., while the other can be used as a cool place to read, write, paint or engage in other creative endeavors. Equipped with a large table, it also functions as a full-sized, separate dining area.
Al fresco
Step from kitchen/living area onto a large terrace to relax or dine in plein air. If you like bird watching, head out to the garden terrace with your morning coffee. The garden contains cherry and pine trees, as well as a large stone hearth for grilling.
Activities
The house has a collection of books, musical instruments, games and as well as a ping-pong table at your disposal.
The house can accommodate seven comfortably with its master and junior bedrooms, two living rooms, two bathrooms, as well as play and music rooms. It is equipped with a washing machine, dryer, dishwasher and Wi-Fi.
Sleeping accommodations
Downstairs are two interconnecting bedrooms for a total of four guests (one master and one junior). The second large and open living area can be used as overflow for up to four additional guest sleeping accommodations.
Garden areas
Typical to Liguria, the house is perched on a mountain top with terraced gardens. Casa Bahar has three levels: the first, at the entrance to the house, contains a stone terrace with a round table, a grassy, tree-shaded area as well as a stone hearth. Below is a garden area which is sunny and open with rosemary, sage, grape vines and tree saplings. At the lowest level, are old growth olive trees and younger fruit trees.
Bathrooms
The house features two full-sized, spacious and newly renovated bathrooms with glass-sided walk-in showers.
We try to make Casa Bahar green and sustainable:
Water
We are delighted to share that our newest addition to Casa Bahar are solar panels. With the abundant sun shining down on our village, we now heat water with the sun’s rays.
Building Materials
We have recently redone Casa Bahar’s stone exterior to maintain its beauty and functionality. The bedrooms, entry rooms, lower living room and bathrooms are naturally cool in summer, eliminating the need for air conditioning.
Doors
All of our pine doors are sourced from a French firm which salvages and restores doors from farmhouses.
Paint
The paint used in our house is lime-based with pigments which is breathable and non-toxic.
Flooring
The floors in the main rooms are laid with “cotto,” terra cotta. One bathroom boasts antique and salvaged tile. The wooden floors in the bedrooms have been insulated to retain heat in the winter.
Furniture
Much of the furniture in our house is antique. Our shelving is made of salvaged wood. We try to use antique or sustainable light fixtures.
Gardening
As the village of Ubaga can sometimes run short of water in the summer, we have plants that need little to no additional watering. We do not keep a water intense lawn in our gardens, but we rather welcome fragrant pine needles from our tall trees to provide ground coverage in our garden.
Recycling
In accordance with regional and town rules, we ask our guests to sort and recycle garbage.
We hope to set up a composting area in the near future.
